The Art of Existing

Image
What does it mean to exist? Faced with the question, it can be easily dismissed with what we are doing now and how we embody this "thing" that is us. But what constitutes existence and how do we determine that we actually exist; to answer what is in our existence that we need to prove for us to live? Firstly, I think as humans, we could never determine our own existence. Do we exist or do we not, is simply not answerable with a "yes" or a "no" but rather a longing question that we need to examine from time to time. I remember, when I was 15, I used to doubt the reality of those that surround me. From basic objects to people I interact with in my day to day meager mundane highschool teen life. How do I quantify they exist? From that question, it led me to a deep existential crisis trying to figure out what it means to exist and to understand the "realness" of my surroundings.  Will we ever know? One philosophical ideology, Solipsism, states that w...

Search For The Good: Pleasure and Happiness

PART I The concept of what it means to be good has plagued a lot of thinkers in years, since what does it actually mean to be good? And are humans truly good? How will we be able to quantify or understand what being good is, when society in itself has established certain proceedings and rules to benefit itself, the "itself" referring to previous rulers who made it their intention for the laws to serve them, and benefitting their constituents comes at a second thought - this is purely conjecture and a definite when living in a third world country.  When they established all those rules, one is prescribed as to what is "good" and what is "evil". In a religious concept, these two were made out of texts that have existed for a long time, and I do agree some of them make sense, such as preserving our species or doing good to others without expecting anything in return. But like all ancient text pieces, they do have their flaws, in which it separates humans from...

Loneliness: A Precursor to Freedom

Often times, when we become lonely, there is a guilt that comes with it. A gnawing feeling that we ought not to feel this certain emotion, as we traverse on our daily lives. But what is it with loneliness, that makes us guilty? Is it the outlier of emotion that is usually looked down upon by our acquaintances, friends, family, or even people that we have never even talked to, or is it the constant surface projection that life should constantly be achieved in a happy state?   We usually see loneliness being associated with humans and how it is being defined as a “weak” feeling that removes us from our routine, and it’s as if the positivity movement of always seeing the brighter scenario, chasing that greener pasture, or simply searching for the silver lining, weakens the humanity attached to being lonely as something that needs to be rid of or an extra organ that doesn’t contribute to years of evolution.   But what happens when we remove the guilt from it? When we try to unders...
